ABOUT

Dr. Navraj Heran is a locally raised and practicing neurosurgeon maintaining a very active neurosurgical profile at several hospitals in the Greater Vancouver area. These include Royal Columbian Hospital, Eagle Ridge Hospital and Lion’s Gate Hospital. He specializes in minimal access techniques in neurosurgery and is one of three neurosurgeons in the lower mainland trained and actively practicing in endovascular neurosurgery.

Dr. Navraj Heran was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. He attended the University of British Columbia, graduating in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Physiology. He continued his education at UBC, receiving his M.D in 1998. Dr. Heran then completed his neurosurgical residency at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) and BC Children’s hospital. He continued his training in Neurosurgery and Neuroscience at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, Beth Israel Hospital in New York, Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix Arizona and Victoria General Hospital in Victoria. From 2003-2004, Dr. Heran was chief Resident at UBC and VGH before becoming an attending Neurosurgeon at Royal Columbian Hospital in 2004. In 2005 he did his fellowship for Endovascular Neurosurgery at Roosevelt Hospital in New York City.

Dr. Navraj Heran has worked with a variety of healthcare and education institutions throughout North America. His focus in clinical practice is cerebrovascular, spinal and oncologic neurosurgery. Some of the procedures commonly performed in an ambulatory, outpatient setting included lumbar and cervical discectomy, laminectomy, peripheral nerve surgery, vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty for osteoporotic or neoplastic spinal compression fractures.

Currently, Dr. Heran is a member of the surgical team at Fraser Health Authority in Vancouver, BC.
